Most family entertainment venues are closed due to the pandemic, but that hasn’t stopped them from producing great virtual content and online activities that are fun for the whole family. In our Virtual Family Activity Guide, we take a look at family focused entertainment destinations in Southeast Wisconsin, who are offering virtual live performances, arts and craft projects for kids, skills development, education based content and more!

Milwaukee Public Museum

Milwaukee Public Museum

MPM launched a wide array of free virtual content including fun kids activities like crossword puzzles, connect the dots, drawing and crafting. The MPM Untold video series offers an inside look at various museum collections with a quiz to test your knowledge. Betty Brinn Children’s Museum

Betty Brinn Children's Museum

Select from over seventy different workshops centered around arts and crafts, fashion, drawing, sculpting, etc., all highlighting a variety of different cultures. Titles include “Metal Etching”, “Brazilian Indigenous Necklace”, “Creating a Diablada’s Mask”, “Make a Palo de Lluvia Rainstick”, and dozens of others. First Stage Theater

First Stage Theater

First Stage has offered an entire season of virtual events going back to September of 2020. Their upcoming performance of “The Crucible” streams live February 19th through February 21st, and a recorded version will be available to stream through March 7th. A recorded version of “Escape from Peligro Island”, a choose your own adventure play, is still available through February 28th. On March 6th, they will host their “27th Annual Make Believe Ball”. The virtual event will include family activities, an auction, a virtual dance party, and appearances from First Stage actors. Learn more here.

MOWA, located in West Bend, offers a “Mini Masters To Go” program which is a series of virtual art discussions, story time and home art projects. Create your own dancing bear, create your own bird migration scene, handprint insects and much more. See what they have to offer here.

Mitchell Park Domes

The domes are offering virtual tours as well as virtual classes and events. If you plan to start a garden in spring, the Domes are offering a Virtual Vegetable Garden Bed Planning and Mapping class which is perfect for the family just starting out. Whether you are planning for a large garden, or a small raised bed, this class will give a beginner the knowledge they need to get started on the right track. The pre-recorded course costs $15. National Bobblehead Museum

National Bobblehead Museum

Got a fan or collector of bobbleheads in the house? This virtual tour of the National Bobblehead Museum in Milwaukee will be a hit. The museum has thousands of bobbleheads on display from professional athletes to U.S. Presidents, mascots, celebrities and more. Check it out here.

MAM has a large selection of virtual experiences including virtual tours of current exhibitions, audio guides going in depth on the works on view, writing and art activities for kids. Also available in a virtual setting, is the Kohl’s Art Studio, a collection of free online art activities for kids and families. Activities include painting, drawing, sculpting, crafting and more. The Racine Zoo “brings the zoo to you” with a large catalog of virtual activities you can do at home with your kids. Check out videos of animals playing, eating and hanging out, do an at home craft, download coloring sheets, or go on a nature scavenger hunt around your home. Check out all of the activities here.

Milwaukee Public Library

If your children are younger in age, the library’s virtual programming might be right up your alley. The library hosts virtual story times in thirty minute increments for kids up to five years old. Their virtual “Reading Buddies” program is great for kids ages six to nine, allowing them to work on their reading directly with a librarian. There’s even a lot of great programming for adults. Local artists host a variety of virtual activities including dance, theater, music, arts and crafts. Storytime videos include book readings from local celebrities. Every Saturday they host a live Family Arts Day event on Facebook, getting families engaged in dance, theater, and visual arts. See their virtual programs here.
