Arts and crafts with Teacher Toni - “My Dream Is”

Monday, January 18th is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. In this installment of Arts and Crafts with Teacher Toni, we have a simple project that provides you the opportunity to have important dialogue with your children regarding who Martin Luther King Jr. was, what he accomplished, and why we honor him on that special day.

Craft Ideas for kids
  • Project - My Dream Is.

  • Materials needed - Crayons, markers or colored pencils, one piece of white paper, one piece of colored construction paper, scissors, glue.

  • Instructions - On the white sheet of paper, ask your child to write down one dream that would help make the world a kinder place. Once finished, have your child draw a dream bubble around it (similar to a speech bubble). Next, on the same piece of white paper (or a separate piece of paper if there isn’t space), have your child draw a self-portrait and color it in. Once finished, have your child cut out both the dream bubble and the self-portrait, and glue them on the piece of colored construction paper. Use this project as an opportunity to teach your child about history, Martin Luther King Jr., and have a dialogue about your child’s dream and what it means to them. Listen to the “I Have a Dream” speech in its entirety here.
