Arts and Crafts with Teacher Toni - Homemade Valentines Day Card for Mom

Sunday, February 14th is Valentine’s Day. If you read our “What Moms Really Want for Valentine’s Day” article, you’ll know that one of the items high on the list is a homemade card or craft from the kids. In this installment of Arts and Crafts with Teacher Toni, we create a Valentine’s card that mom will love.

Craft ideas for kids
  • Project - Homemade Valentine’s Day card for mom.

  • Materials Needed - One piece of red, white, black, and orange construction paper, glue, scissors, heart doilies, writing utensil.

  • Instructions - The piece of red construction paper will serve as your card. Fold it in half. Feel free to cut it down to a size you like, but not smaller than the heart doily. Glue your heart doily on to the front of the card. If you do not have a heart doily, you can simply cut out a heart using pink construction paper, Next, you are going to create a face on the heart doily. Take the white piece of construction paper and cut out medium sized hearts. These will serve as the eyes. Do the same with the black construction paper but make them slightly smaller than the white hearts. These will be the pupils. Glue the white hearts on to the doily where the eyes would be. Glue the black hearts on top of the white hearts where the pupils would be. Next, take the orange construction paper and cut out a triangle. This will be the beak, or nose, of the face. Glue that on to the doily under the eyes where a beak or nose would be placed. With that, you’re done with the front of the card. The final step is to open the card and write a note to mom. If you do not want to write directly on the red construction paper, you can cut out a rectangle with the leftover white construction paper, and glue that to the inside of the card (right hand page) as your writing surface. With that, your homemade Valentine’s Day card for mom is complete!
